What we check during your roadworthy:

The process of issuing a roadworthy certificate also known as a ‘RWC’ involves a thorough inspection of the vehicle by a licensed vehicle tester at a nominated garage to ensure that it is safe enough to be used on public roads in Victoria. The roadworthy certificate is necessary for re-registering, selling a vehicle and to clear some defect notices and will only be issued when a vehicle passes the inspection.

Our experts make sure the overall functioning of the vehicle is checked for both minor and major damages relating to safety items within the car including:

  • Wheels and tyres for illegal tread
  • Steering, suspensions and braking systems
  • Seats and seatbelts for damage
  • Lights and reflectors work as they are supposed to
  • Windscreen and windows including front wipers and washers
  • Vehicle structure is sound
  • Other safety related items on the body, chassis or engine

What we don't check in your roadworthy:

A roadworthy check isn’t a check of the mechanical reliability or general condition of a vehicle which means that even if your vehicle passes the check and obtains a certificate there may still be non safety related problems present in the vehicle. As a result we will not be checking:

  • Non-safety related accessories (such as the air conditioner function, rear window demister, electric windows and rear-window wipers) are working
  • The vehicle complies with all of the Australian Design Rules (ADRs)

If you require a comprehensive check on the overall condition and reliability of the vehicle then you should arrange for a separate independent vehicle inspection to be done – this may be the better option if you are seeking peace of mind pre purchase.

What if my vehicle does not pass the roadworthy check?

If your vehicle does not pass the test the reviewer will issue a rejection report and you will have 14 days to resolve the issue. If you take longer than 14 days to resolve the issue then an entirely new roadworthy check will need to be carried out. Any repairs required to make the vehicle roadworthy will be at further cost.
